How to Encrypt iTunes Backups on Computer

Oct 20,2015 Posted by Allen Lee to Guides

If you have Health and HomeKik etc sensitive data on your iPhone, please set a password in iTunes to encrypt your iPhone backups first before using Backuptrans software to transfer data. iTunes doesn't encrypt your backups by default, so please follow this tutorial step by step to encrypt your iTunes backups:

Step 1: Connect your device to your computer.

Step 2: Open iTunes and make sure you have the latest version.

Step 3: Select your device.

Step 4: Check the "This computer" and "Encrypt iPhone backup" options in the summary pane.

Step 5: Follow the prompt to make a password. Make one you'll remember or write it down and safely store it, because there's no way to recover your iTunes backups without this password.

Step 6: After confirming your password, iTunes starts backing up and also immediately overwrites and encrypts your previous backups.

Done! Now you can go back to Backuptrans software on computer to transfer data on your iPhone.
